Klangcheck
Der Klangcheck wurde mit versschiedenen Headsets durchgeführt. Um die Auswirkung auf Geräte verschiedener Preisklassen zu untersuchen, wurden das Sharkoon Skiller SGH3, Lioncast LX55 USB, Sennheiser GSP 600 sowie das beyerdynamic MMX300 Gen2 herangezogen. Von ~40€ bis ~300€ soll damit ein Querschnitt über aktuelle Gaming Headsets getroffen werden. Der Vergleich erfolgt dabei immer zwischen der ggf. vorhandenen USB-Soundkarte, dem Realtek ALC1220 des MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC sowie dem Sennheiser GSX 1000.
Tatsächlich kristallisierte sich ein Unterschied in der Audiowiedergabe nur schwer heraus. Betrieben wurde der Sennheiser GSX 1000 im 24 Bit Modus, wodurch kein EQ ausgewählt werden kann, die Wiedergabe also unverfälscht erfolgte. Grundsätzlich lässt sich sagen, dass der GSX 1000 bei gleich eingestellter Lautstärke lauter agiert als die anderen USB-Soundkarten sowie der Realtek ALC1220. Die Unterschiede der beiden analogen Headsets (GSP600 und MMX300) zwischen GSX 1000 und ALC1220 waren dann aber schon schwerer auszumachen. Das GSP600 klang bei Rage Against the Machine (Killing In The Name) minimal tiefer und weniger akzentuiert. Beim MMX300 wirkten beim gleichen Titel die Bässe am GSX1000 etwas trockener als am ALC1220. Bei Aphex Twin (180dB) klangen die Höhen mit dem GSP600 am ALC1220 im Vergleich zum GSX 1000 etwas gekappt. Wanderwall von Oasis brachte bei beiden Headsets keinerlei Unterschied zum Vorschein.
Beim Shgarkoon Skiller SGH3 lässt sich über die Bank hinweg sagen, dass die SB1 Soaundkarte linearer klingt als die GSX 1000. Bemerkbar macht sich dies bspw. bei Stimmen bzw. Gesang, welcher sich gefühlt etwas besser aus dem Rest herauslöst. Eine deutlich Aufwertung erhält der Klang insgesamt ab auch hier nicht. Anders sieht es beim Lioncast LX55 USB aus. Dieses klingt am GSX 1000 tatäschlich als einziges Headset deutlich gereifter, als über die interne USB-Soundkarte. In allen Klangbereichen kann das LX55 zulegen und wirkt dadurch voller.
Fasst man die Eindrücke zusammen, so kann man schon von einer leichten Enttäuschung sprechen. Gerade bei den höherpreisigen Headsets hatten wir uns einen Zugewinn versprochen, welcher jedoch nur in Nuancen eingetreten ist.
7.1 Surround Sound
Im unverfälschten Stereo-Modus konnte der Audioverstärker also noch nicht wirklich überzeugen, weshalb die Hoffnung auf den 7.1 Surround Sound verlagert wurde. Wiedererwarten funktioniert dieser wirklich gut. Die Skpesis rührt daher, dass uns bislang eigentlich noch keine künstlich erzeugte Umgebungsbeschallung überzeugen konnte. In der offenen Welt von Far Cry 5 gewöhnt man sich sehr schnell an die erzeugte Klangwelt. Geht die virtuelle Erzeugung des Raumklangs oft mit einem merkwürdigem Hall einher, bleibt des Sound an der GSX 1000 in diesem Modus weiterhin klar und echt. Den ergänzbaren Hall, welcher gerade für eine offene Welt angedacht ist, fanden wir jedoch weniger gelungen und ließen diesen deaktiviert. Was ebenfalls bemerkenswert gut funktioniert, ist die Balance zwischen Front, Mitte und Hinten. Die Unterschiede sind gut raushörbar, wodurch sich verschiedene Einsatzszenarien ergeben. Stellt man auf Frontbetonung, kann man durch das Umschauen Gegner noch besser orten, da ihre Schüsse und Interaktionen sozusagen verstärkt werden. Die Betonung des Hintergrunds bietet sich dann an, wenn man am Schleichen ist und das Gehör als hintere Augen verwenden möchte.
Equalizer
Der Sennheiser GSX 1000 bietet keine individuelle Klangjustierung, sondern kommt mit vier bzw. drei Presets daher. Während sich der eSports Modus wirklich extrem abhebt, sind Film und Musik recht ähnlich abgestimmt. Die eSport Einstellung nimmt der Sound-Wiedergabe sozusagen das gesamte Bassfundament. Der Vorteil soll darin liegen, dass Schritte und andere verursachte Geräusche von Gegnern nicht durch tiefe Töne überdeckt werden. Grundsätzlich findet man so eine Abstimmung teilweise auch bei Gaming-Headsets bereits vor. In der Tat funkioniert das recht gut, aber einen klanglichen Genuss erfährt man dabei weniger. Es geht schlicht nur um die Verbesserung der Ortung, nicht um das Vergnügen.
Anders sieht es bei der Film-Abstimmung aus. Im Gegensatz zu der normalen und vor allem der eSport Abstimmung wird es deutlich dynamischer. Die Stimmenwiedergabe wird etwas hervorgehoben und der Sound gewinnt an Tiefgang. Auch diese Einstellung erfüllt ihren Zweck gut. Gleiches trifft auf die Musik Einstellung zu, welche den Bass noch einmal verstärkt. Der Ton beginnt gefühlt noch ein paar Hz weiter unten und kann mit entsprechendem Headset oder Lautsprechern nun für richtig knackige und kickende Bässe sorgen.
Was bei der unverfälschten Klangwiedergabe fehlte, reißen die Equalizer wieder ein wenig raus. Die Abstimmung wurde vom Hersteller angemessen umgesetzt, wobei der eSport Modus wirklich nur für competetives Zocken geeignet ist, da die "Klangverfälschung" stark die Lust am Game nimmt.
Mikrofonverstärker
Für den Mikrofoneingang nennt der Hersteller eine Auflösung von 16 bit und 16 kHz. Um die Auswirkungen bzw. die Qualität unter die Lupe zu nehmen, wurden wieder die genannten Headsets an entsprechenden Soundkarten eingesetzt. Der Vergleich ist hier etwas weniger Subjektiv, weil man sich mittels der folgenden Audio-Aufnahmen selbst ein Bild von der Leistung des GSX 1000 machen kann. Die Aufnahmen wurden mit Windows Sprachrekorder aufgenommen und danach in das MP3 Format umgewandelt.
Sennheiser GSP 600
Das analoge Sennheiser GSP 600 scheint ein ähnliches, wenn nicht sogar das gleiche Mikrofon wie das Sennheiser GSP 550 zu verwenden. Bereits am Realtek ALC1220 klingt es ein wenig hallig und blechern, was am Sennheiser GSX 1000 noch einmal verstärkt wird. Der Klang ist zwar sehr klar, aber auch sehr kalt bzw. elektronisch.

beyerdynamic MMX300 Gen2
Das Mikrofon des beyerdynamic MMX300 Gen2 klingt am GSX 1000 etwas monotoner und überzeichnet. Insgesamt ist der Ton tiefer und wirkt weniger echt als am Realtek ALC1220.

Sharkoon Skillder SGH3
Das Sharkoon Skiller SGH3 hält im Lieferumfang die USB Soundkarte Sharkoon SB1 bereit. Hier interessiert, wie bzw. ob sich die günstige Lösung von der teuren GSX 1000 absetzen kann. Eingesetzt wurde dabei das SGH3 bzw. dessen Mikrofon selbst. Am SB1 angeschlossen nimmt man ein deutliches Rauschen wahr, was am GSX 1000 nicht der Fall ist. Dafür klingt es auch hier etwas metallischer.

Lioncast LX55 USB
Das Lioncast LX55 USB hat die USB Soundkarte sozusagen integriert. Auch hier interessierte, inwieweit es zu einem Unterschied kommt. Der Lautsstärkeunterschied soll hier nicht zur Debatte stehen, da dies auf einen Einstellungsfehler zurückzuführen ist. Die eigentliche Sprachaufzeichnung ist aber recht ähnlich. Am GSX 1000 ist die Klangfarbe hier jedoch etwas tiefer.

Die Eindrücke sind insgesamt eher zwiegespalten. Die Aufnahmen sind zwar immer verständlich, aber nicht wirklich besser. Zum Teil wirkt die Stimme metallischer, elektronischer oder auch tiefer. In gewisser Weise aber einfach nicht sehr realistisch bzw. echt.
